Ramban, May 30 (KNO): Two persons died after a truck they were travelling in skidded off the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, plunged into a nallah, and caught fire in Ramban district on Saturday.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a truck bearing (No. JK16A-0693) carrying a load of limestone was travelling from Jammu towards Srinagar. The ill-fated vehicle met with an accident near Gangroo and plunged into an adjoining nallah before catching fire.
He said that soon after the incident, Fire and Emergency Services personnel, police and local volunteers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. During the operation, the bodies of the driver and the conductor were recovered from the burnt cabin of the vehicle.
The truck was completely destroyed in the fire, officials added.
The deceased were identified as Shakir Ahmed Manhas, son of Liyqat Ahmed Manhas and of Paripora, Anantnag, who was driving the truck, and Mohammad Iqbal, of Keherbal, Anantnag, who was working as its conductor.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident—(KNO)
